Course Overviews

Welcome to Gordonstoun’s English department blog. Below, you’ll find information on the courses we offer and the exam boards we use for different qualifications.

Year 9: in Year 9 we concentrate on introducing our students to a range of different texts, from novels and poetry to plays and non-fiction.

Year 10: the current cohort (2015-16) are following Edexcel’s specification for GCSE English Language. This is a linear course, with two external exams accounting for 100% of the qualification. In addition to GCSE English Language, many students will study GCSE English Literature (Edexcel) or GCSE Media Studies (OCR).

Year 11: the current cohort are the last group to complete Edexcel’s modular GCSEs. There are two options for core English: GCSE English, or GCSE English Language. In addition, many students are studying GCSE English Literature (Edexcel) or GCSE Media Studies (OCR).

There are two courses offered in Y12: AS English Language (OCR) and AS English Literature (Edexcel). Both are linear courses, culminating in external exams in summer 2016.

Our Year 13 students are the final cohort to complete modular A Levels in English Language (AQA B) and English Literature (AQA B).
